On an oil and gas site, a missing torque wrench delays a job. A gas detector that wasn't bump tested, or a harness that failed inspection and went back on the truck anyway, puts someone at risk. Most operators and contractors track both in different places: tools in one spreadsheet, inspections in binders, certifications in a training file. Know where every tool is and who has it
Give every tool a barcode or QR code (or RFID tag, on Premium) check it out to a person, or transfer it to another location. Keep safety equipment inspected on schedule
Oil and gas sites carry a lot of safety equipment per person: H2S and multi-gas detectors, harnesses and lanyards, SCBA and escape respirators, fire extinguishers, rigging and slings, eyewash stations. Each needs regular inspection and a record that proves it.
With ToolWorks, each piece of equipment gets an inspection schedule and a full history:
- Start from standards-based checklists. Presets based on OSHA, ANSI and NFPA cover fall protection (ANSI Z359), rigging and slings, fire extinguishers (NFPA 10), hot work, flammable liquids storage, ladders, and more. Build your own for gas detectors and respirators, with bump test and calibration results recorded as readings.
- Inspect offline. Wellsites and remote pads often have no signal. Inspectors scan, complete the checklist, take photos, and sign; everything syncs when they're back in range.
- Pull failed gear from service. When an item fails, the inspector records the reason, severity, and photos. The equipment is marked out of service and can't be checked out until it's dealt with.
- Share the record. Every inspection is signed and time-stamped. Download a PDF or send a link to an operator, auditor, or insurer, who can view it without an account.

Get through turnarounds without losing track
A turnaround or shutdown brings in contract crews, compresses months of work into weeks, and moves a lot of tools and safety equipment in a short time. That's when things go missing and inspections slip.
- Before: filter upcoming and overdue inspections by unit, and get equipment inspected before the work starts.
- During: check tools, harnesses, monitors, and SCBA out to each contract worker, so you know who has what.
- Qualified inspectors: record contractor certifications and expiry dates, and require the right certification for the inspections they perform. ToolWorks can block an inspection by someone unqualified, or allow it with a recorded reason.
- After: check equipment back in, see what's still out, and close out with inspection records in hand.
